Day 60 - Escalante - Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah

I got up in time to take a nice shower while it was still cool enough in the car for Luna and ended up taking a second book from their pile of free books. The night before I had taken “The Man Who Listens to Horses” by Monty Roberts after some inner debate, I own the book already, although I haven’t read it since I was around 12 and it is hidden in a box downstairs now, but seeing it there made me want to read it now and seeing as I had lots of time to read, I decided to take it, I will give it away or leave it in another free library later. This morning I noticed “Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul” and decided to take it as well, always up for feel good stories about animals, I finished the 350 or so page book by the following afternoon and am about 100 pages in to Monty Roberts’ book as I write this, the day after. Being on this trip has taken me back to absolutely loving reading, I must be certain that this does not fade again once I am back with wifi and Netflix!

Once finished getting ready for the day, I wanted to leave right away, I had had a little stove malfunction that had led to their crappy plastic table have a round, camp stove shaped burn through much of it and now an employee was walking about so could notice it and accuse me at anytime (although I would have fervently denied knowledge of how it occurred - truthfully, I have my ideas, but I am really not entirely sure what took place as my stove has been absolutely wonderful until then).

Bryce Canyon National Park is a little over an hour away from the town of Escalante. The line up of cars at the two open fee stations was very long and took awhile to go through, although I was happy that my phone and computer received a little longer on the charger. Immediately after entering, I headed to secure a campsite for the night, knowing the these places fill up fast. Later, laying in my car, many people would drive by searching for an open campsite that was not available. I walked along the Sunrise Point - Sunset Point Trail admiring the views for a good long while, then went back and read for some time, before heading off for a walk along the paved trail. There are nice trails in to the canyon, but Bryce Canyon does not allow dogs on any trail that is not paved, because of this, there really is not that much to do for someone with a dog at Bryce Canyon, but it is still lovely to see.

My little fox.
